contraceptive methods, how they work, and possible side effects
Birth control pills: hormones stop ovulation, no ovulation means no egg and the sperm has nothing to attach to. It also thickens the mucus on the cervix so the sperm can't swim to the egg
could cause weight gain or fluid retention, breast swelling, nashua, migraines, spotting or bleeding between periods
condoms: blocks semen from entering the vagina
could cause irrigation around the vagina or penis or mild allergic reaction
IUD: kills sperm or makes them immobile, also changes the lining of the uterus preventing implantation
irregular bleeding for several months, headaches, nausea, short, lighter, or no periods at all, breast tenderness
birth control shot: works the same way as pills or patches, but the hormone is given in a shot
increases spotting or bleeding between periods, weight gain, headaches, irregular periods
birth control patch: works the same as birth control pills, but the hormones are released into your body through the patch
headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, abdominal pain, skin irritation
vasectomy: blocks or cuts the vas deferens tube, keeping the sperm out of the semen
could cause bleeding, pain or discomfort, Epididymitis,
tubal ligation: Fallopian tubes are cut or tied, prevents egg from traveling from he ovaries and prevents sperm from traveling to the egg
could cause damage to bowel, bladder, or major blood vessels, pelvic or abdominal pain, failure of procedure
They already have kids
woman is starting to get towards the end of her childbearing years
they know they don't want anymore kids
best options
Tubal ligation: this is also a great option because they are certain they don't want anymore kids. It is also permanent and over 99% effective.
IUD: this option isn't permanent but it lasts between 3-10 years, it is also over 99% effective
Vasectomy: since they are certain they don't want anymore kids this is a great option because it is permanent and is over 99% effective in preventing pregnancy, although side effects can be worse than other methods, the side effects are typically short term
worst options
birth control shot: this works the same as a birth control pill, which she is wanting to get off of, the effectiveness can also drop if you don't get your shot on time, when you are married with 2 kids that could increase the chances for you having to reschedule a doctors appointment and not being able to get the shot on time
condoms: a lot can go wrong with a condom, although they are the safest because they don't have many side effects, effectiveness rate drops 85% when used incorrectly and for a married couple who knows they don't want anymore kids that is a big chance to take especially if you are having sexual intercourse often
birth control patch: this works the same as a birth control pill as well, this also leaves room for human error, not changing the patch out on time or wearing one too long, it is around 91% effective due to human errors
They are married
