Learning Hebrew - Coggle Diagram

- - - - I HATE speaking Hebrew with Ido
        
        He tells me a lot about how he learned English quickly by being forced to talk with English speakers
        
        Subtext: "It's ok that you're doing it in an inferior fashion - if you were serious about it, you'd do it my way"
        
        He brings this up a lot, even though I remind him every time how much further along he was in English at that time, compared to where I am in Hebrew right now. He had years of learning since childhood; I've had a few months of learning as a thirty-something adult
        
        He has ideas about how I should learn Hebrew - one of them is by being exposed to native Hebrew speakers immediately
        
        It's just one more reminder that I'm not his equal, and some days I can't handle it, and his desire to be helpful. He makes more money than me, he beats me in Chess constantly, and we never do any tasks that he's bad at or fail at
    - - He tries very hard to help me, and gets a little single-minded about it sometimes - my life is a balance that learning Hebrew is a PART of, it's not the whole.
      - He also tried to helpfully declare "only speak Hebrew now"
  - - - She is easiest one for me. She initiates gently and consistently, but doesn't push, and also encourages the shit out of me in every other area of life
    - - It feels like a more even playing field - we both have a shared ignorance, just different sides of the coin
      - I can't retreat into English - the option is removed
    - - Again, feels like there's an understanding there. I am keenly aware that Tal and Ido do not understand the beyond-language reasons making this so hard for me
