Socialist (Had some very strong views). he became very aware of the gap between the classes middle and upper compared to the working classes and as they had so much money and power they could influence the commonwealth party. He was fighting for better rights to the lower classes.

She went to a public bar
She was approached by a drunk man who was well known as a womaniser but Gerald came and pulled her away from him.
She then had a meal with him where she explained she had no work or a place to live. He then gave her access to a flat he paid for and supplied money and food but she was now his mistress showing he used her for his own personal gain.
