NEW ZEALAND
HISTORY and IMMIGRATION
In 1860 there were already 100.000 settlers in the South Island, because the land was good and there was gold.
-
When British settlers arrived, they took Maori's land, so began a 12-year-war.
Today New Zealand has 4,5 million inhabitants with origins form Europe, Asia, the Pacific Islands and about 15% are Maoris.
The first British immigrants arrived in New Zealand in 1840. At the time the only inhabitants were Maori, coming from Polynesia.

The environment and nature are very important for Maoris, their names are less important than the names of their tribes, mountain and rivers.
