The Korean War was from 1950-1953.After the war, Korea split into North and South Korea. The North was communist, supported by China and the USSR, while the South was democratic, supported by the Western world. In 1950, North invaded South, and the UN called members to assist South. USSR was withdrawing from the UN refusing to give China a seat. Canadian Prime Minister sent thousands of troops. The UN managed, to push the North Koreans back, and thought about invading China when they joined the war. The UN forces were led by American General Macarthur. In 1953, an armistice was established. 25,000 Canadians sent to Korea, 519 died, and 1500 seriously injured. It is known as Canada's forgotten war. North and South Korea still have not come to an agreement over peace treaty, so technically the war is still on.
