Major functions of the
Reproductive system
The major internal organs of the female reproductive system include the vagina and uterus — which act as the receptacle for semen — and the ovaries, which produce the female's ova. The vagina is attached to the uterus through the cervix, while the fallopian tubes connect the uterus to the ovaries
The penis and the urethra are part of the urinary and reproductive systems. The scrotum, testes (testicles), epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, and prostate comprise the rest of the reproductive system.
Anatomy of male and female reproductive structures & their functions
The male reproductive system consists of two major parts: the testes, where sperm are produced, and the penis

hormones of the reproductive system
Sex hormones are responsible for driving sexual development (puberty). The main reproductive hormones are oestrogen and testosterone.
Oestrogen causes eggs to mature in ovaries once a girl hits puberty. These are then released at regular intervals during the menstrual cycle. Testosterone stimulates sperm production in males.
Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), causing maturation of an egg in the ovary.
Luteinising hormone (LH) stimulating the release of the egg.
Oestrogen and progesterone are involved in maintaining the uterus lining.
Events of the female hormonal cycles
The four phases of the menstrual cycle are menstruation, the follicular phase, ovulation and the luteal phase. Common menstrual problems include heavy or painful periods and premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Knowing when in the menstrual cycle a woman is most likely to conceive can increase the chance of pregnancy
