Self-regulation
Dr. Stuart Shanker states, "self-regulation is a method of understanding stress and energy levels".

Bodova and Leong (2008) state that self-regulation allows adults and children to "engage in mindful, intentional behaviours" (p.56). Self-regulation has two sides:
- be able to control impulses and STOP
- capacity to do something when needed
When children grow older and there is an increase in brain development, one can begin to control their thinking and feeling.
