PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
VOLUNTARY RESPONSES
-Consciously Controlled
MOTOR NERVES
SOMATIC
-PNS division control voluntary responses.
-Responsible for relaying sensory and motor information between outside environment and the CNS.
-Innervate outer section of body (skin ,skeletal muscle)
-Any muscle movement or voluntary motor output uses the somatic nervous system
AUTONOMIC
Sympathetic
-Fight or Flight response system
-causes general alertness & excitement
-Body way of responding to aperceived threat
Parasympathetic
-Rest and Digest response system
-Restores the body to a calm or restful state
-PNS division that handles involuntary movement in the body.
-Intervates our internal organs
-Controls Vital function (heart rate, respiration and breathing ,digestion )
SENSORY NERVES
SENSORY (AFFERENT)
-Detect various sensations (pain & heat)
-Transmit message toward the CNS to be interpreted by either the spinal cord or brain.
MOTOR (EFFERENT)
-Transmit message away from CNS
-Stimulate effectors (skin,sense organ,muscles ,etc.)
INVOLUNTARY RESPONSE
-Unconsciously Controlled
THE REFLECT ARC
-Sensory Detection
-Interpretation of Sensory Input
-Motor ouput
GANGLIA = Collection of sensory neuron soma
