Indomethacin
Mechanisms of action
Produces analgesic and antiinflammatory effects by inhibiting synthesis of prostaglandins
Acts to inhibit Cox that synthesises prostaglandins but may have other anti inflammatory effects
Dosage
25mg twice a day

Relieve signs and symptoms of rheumotid arthritis
Pharmacologic closure of persistent patens ducts arteriosus in premature infants
Side effects
Vomiting
Heartburn
Upset stomach
Constipation
Storage
In a dry cool environment
Shore between 25 -30°c
Out of reach of children
Nursing considerations
Patient is at risk for GI bleeding, monitor frequently
Give drug after eating meals
Discontinue drug is eye changes
Test renal function between doses
