Parathyroid drugs
Calcitriol
indication
Manages secondary hyperparathyroidism and resultant metabolic bone disease in patients with moderate to severe chronic renal failure not yet on dialysis
-
Mechanism of action
Calcitriol is a potent metabolite to the active form of vitamin D which in turn controls the re-absorption of calcium by the kidney, it increases blood calcium levels by increasing renal tubular re-absorption of calcium by also promoting absorption of dietary calcium from the gastrointestinal tract.
Storage conditions
Should be stored at room temperature ,between 15C and 30C and protect from light

Calcitonin
-
Storage conditions
Store in the refrigerator, do not freeze
-
-
-
Indication
Treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis Paget of disease bone and hypercalcemia, it inhibits osteoclasts and increase renal excretion of calcium
-
Mechanism of action
Calcitonin inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption through the regulation of the number and the activity of osteoclasts ,in the tubules it reduces serum calcium and phosphate by promoting diuresis and decreasing re-absorption
