Defintions
- Modern Architecture- based on the idea of functionality, minimalism(more white and neutral tones) and the elimination of ornaments, usage of modern materials such as reinforced concrete, steel, instead of bricks, stemming from the industrial revolution.
- Modern Art- refers to art that is more in sync with the current social, economic and political conditions, embraces many different movements, reflect a deeper meaning.
Topic sentence 2
CA2: Despite so, activists may argue that modern architecture and art also helps to provide a subtle platform and authority for individuals to express the social and political disputes of the citizens given the high censorship of Singapore.
E.g. for CA2+ Opinion

Rebuttal: Rebuttal: Though, we must acknowledge that this view holds true, however, one must consider that the impact of historical architecture and art is much greater than the modern architecture and art as it allows us to understand the current political views of the Singapore government and why it refutes any work that undermines the government’s authority.

Rebuttal: However, it is a hasty generalisation to conclude that spiritual healing can only be achieved through modern art and architecture. To seek healing, one needs to first be able to gain such appreciation of the art form and find the solace for healing. While many find serenity in minimalism, it lacks the familiarity and nostalgia that brings calmness and home.

SA3: The Singapore tourism board proclaims that Historical Architecture and historical art can also play a significant role by improving cultural tourism.

Historical architecture such as the Kranji war memorial and historical art at the Fort Canning Museum allows cultural tourists to remember and honour the past, and feel the suffering endured by the casualties during the Japanese occupation, offering a different experience from consumer tourism.
CA3: Yet, from an economic point of view, pragmatists may argue that modern architecture and modern art are more aesthetically pleasing in nature and play a significant role in contributing back to the Singapore economy through recreational tourism.

The 101-hectare nature park Gardens by the Bay with an array of different flora artistically arranged saw 10.2 million visitors in its 2017/2018 financial year. Such modern architecture and art in the National Gallery of Singapore attracts many visitors to Singapore, which is important since Singapore relies greatly on tourism to boost their GDP.
Rebuttal: Modern architecture and modern art are pursued by many around the world with varying expression of thoughts but common in abstractness. With modern art being found everywhere, it draws the crowd away from choosing Singapore as their recreational destination. However, Singapore possesses the unique characteristics of a melting pot of cultures, which is present in many of our historical architectures and artworks, allowing it to become the focal point of attracting tourists to our nation.
