warfare

causes

the war took place at the enter of europe, its front was located at the eastern front, the italian front, and the mediterranean front which makes its known as a global war. the 4 main causes of WW1 was militarism, alliances, imperalism, and nationalism.

militarism- it lead to an arms race among the major European powers in the years leading up to the WW1. many countries started to militarism to strengthen up their military. the arm and naval race led to WW1. France amd Germany were heavily involve in the arm race. Germany had 2 million solders which which is double the amount of solders France had.

alliances- Another reason of the war was the system of alliances that existed. then world war 1 began Europe divided between two seperated alliance systems. Britian, France, and Russia made up the Triple Entente while Germany. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand also created a major problem. immedaitily after the assassination, which was carried out by a serbian nationlist organization called the black hand.

imperalism- is the ideology of extrending a countrys rule over foreign nations, often by military force. many european countries mostly britian, france, and germany wanted to expand their empire and they claimed land that wasnt part of their empire which created tension.

nationalism led to some countries uniting and attacking other countries. Nationalism promoted the Expansion of Many european countries. also the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was another cause that led to WW1. the empires leaders blamed the attack on on the serbian goverment.

the war became more destructive because of poison gas, tanks, air planes, machine guns, submarines. these technologies made war more machinical. the total number of military and civilian casualties in WW1 was around 40 million. there was 20 million deaths and 21 million wounded. total war is warfare that includes any and all civilian associated reasources and infastructure as legitmate military targets.

Trench warfare gives solders a shelter during the hard times. each trench started out as individual or paired solders fighting pits. troops dig at night until the basic trench line gets dug. and then can continue digging during the day. no mans land is the land that seperates front lines from opposing armies and perhaps the only location where the enemy troops could meet without hostility. many solders suffered from trench foot. rain and bad weather would flood the trenches making them boggy, muddy, and could even block weapons and make it harder to move in battle.

The eastern and western front was the major fronts. the western front was smaller than the eastern front. trench warfare was almost in the eastern front. western front was france and germany and eastern front had germany. a stalemate is a military situation in which neither side can win a clear victory. the battle of the somme was the battle of the first world war fought by the armies of the british empire and french third republic againist the german empire. who won the battle is a matter of debate as it was not decisive but german had more causalities.

woodrow wilson represented U.S and he wanted a peace treaty based on justice. he wanted a lasting peace. Georges Clemenceau lea france. he wanted a revenge and to punish the germans. David lloyd George lea britian and he had wanted a fair peace. vittorio lead itaily and he wanted germany to pay for all the damage. the fourteen points was created by woodrow wilsion and it was a statement of principles for peace that was to be used for peace negotiations in order to end WW1. it was important because it could create world peace

in world war 1 the allies accepted self determination as a peace aim. it allowed nations to rule themselves and have their own goverment. the principles of self determaination are freedom, authority, support, responsiability, and confirmation. because of self determination there was independece and more peace. it may have been disliked because now small empires wanted to be independant instead of all being together which means less territory for some nations.

the treaty of versailles was the treaty that ended WW1. the country that was blamed and forced to take respoinsability for WW1 fell upon germany. the germans were deprived of their pride . long term effect, the treaty devasteded germany socially. this was also due to the anger occured only two decades later. this was also due to the anger of germans from the punishments of the treaty. it forced germany to give up almost all their territories and pay $5 billion as reparations.
