Burning fossil fuels
H2O Water
Problems
Will eventually release greenhouse gases which is bad for the environment.
Solutions
We don't need to form water this way. It is natural. We can get water from streams and rivers.
How formed
By burning hydrogen and oxygen (with energy or it won't work).
Carbon Monoxide
Problems
It's very toxic.
Solutions
Ensure you have a good supply of oxygen when burned.
how formed
Combustion mustn't be complete and it must react with oxygen.
CO2 Carbon dioxide
Problems
It's a greenhouse as which causes global warming.
Solutions
Burn less fossil fuels.
How formed
Complete combustion reaction with oxygen. Any form of carbon is burned to for this.
C Soot/Particulates
Problems
Blackened buildings and global dimming will occur.
Solutions
Need to make sure you have a good supply of air after you've burned it.
How formed
Reaction with oxygen with incomplete combustion.
NO/NO2 Nitrogen Oxides
Problems
Causes acid rain.
Solutions
Use a catalytic converter.
How formed
Often N2 and O2 in a furnace or an engine reacted together at really high temperatures.
Unburned fuels
Problems
It's harmful to us and to the environment.
Solutions
Have the correct mixture of air and fuel when burned.
How formed
Not all of the fuel actually burns.
SO2 Sulphur Dioxide
Problems
Acid rain.
Solutions
Removing S or Removing SO from the fumes after burning.
How formed
Burning sulphur (there is a reaction with oxygen too).
