Mechanism of action
5HT1/D receptor are concentrated in the wall of the cranial extra cerebral arteries
The mechanism of action is double
It is a selective agonist of 5HT1/D receptor
On the one hand zolmitriptan acts peripherally inhibiting dilation
And it also inhibits inflammation of cranial vessels
Indications
Acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults
Contraindications
History of myocardial infarction
Documented silent ischemia
Angina pectoris
Underlying cardiovascular disease
Ischemic coronary artery disease
Coronary artery vasospasm including prinzmetal's angina
Side effects
Weakness
Drowsiness
Numbness and tingling
Warm or cold sensations
Dizziness
Nausea
Neck/throat /tightness jaw pain
Heavy sensation
Storage condition
Store in room temperature away from light and moisture
Route of administration
Oral
