Questions
“Reported questions”
There is no CHANGE in word order. Verbs 'go back' one tense
There is no DO/DID in reported questions.
We use "if" to report a YES/NO question
We can also use 'whether'
Indirect Speech (Questions)
The most common reporting verb for questions is 'ASK'
He asked, He asked me,
"He asked me, When can I call you back?" ⇾ "He asked me When he could call me back"
They asked us, 'where will you be?'⇾They asked us, where we would be.
When you have a closed question, you need to connect the two parts with the word 'if'
We asked Andrew, 'Have you bought a new game?'⇾ We asked Andrew if he had bought a new game.
Polite question. to be more polite or formal
Could you tell me.../Would you mind telling me...
Direct question: Where did you go?, Indirect question: Could you tell me where you went?

Inviting, apologising
He said to me: Slow down, please. ⇾ He asked me to slow down
I said to her: Would you like to dances? ⇾ I invited her to dance.
making a request, etc.
He said to hime: Stop shouting⇾ He told him to stop shouting
an offer: She said to them -Shall T drive you home?⇾ she offered to drive them home
"What DO you LIKE to eat?"⇾ "Frank asked me what I LIKED to eat"
"What ARE you DOING?"⇾"Paul asked me what I WAS DOING"
