Immune System
Types of Leukocytes
Agranular
smaller granules, single lobe nuclei
-
Monocytes (2-8%)
large, wander & eat debris, foreign pathogens, worn out red blood cells as well as other cells. Release defensins and chemotactic chemicals to attract other types of white blood cells to an infection
-
Granulocytes
classified by the stain best used to reveal their structure, all have obvious granules
Neutrophils (50-70%)
respond fast to infection, eat bacteria, contain lysozyme
Eosinophils (2-4%)
contains antihistamine molecules, reduce inflammation caused by basophils and mast cells, attack parasites, react to things that cause allergies
Basophils (<1%)
contain histamines, increase inflammation and contain heparin to obstruct blood clotting.

Immune Disease Disorders

-
HIV
most common cause of immunodeficiency. HIV is transmitted through direct contact of mucous membrane/ body fluids
-
-
-
-
Lymphatic System
Antigen is eaten by macrophage → macrophage chops it up→T helper cell dock & sense shape of anitgen (initiating the humoral and cell mediated immune response)
