In what ways can the environment affect human settlement?
natural disasters
If many peoples homes get destroyed many of them will move therefore settling somewhere else because of the environment
most don't want to spend the time and money on rebuilding and its easier to just move somewhere else and buy something new
If the natural disaster hit a large area and everyone decided to move then it would be an issue because there economy would go under and if everyone moved then who would fix of the houses and it would just be a junkyard of houses
Rich land
Some people fish for a living so the oceans may drive people out west or to the east coast
For others its recreational but it still does drive people out there
Agriculture is huge and if there is super rich soil many farmers will want it like the Holland March in Innisfil
natural objects such as mountains may attract people different places
many people love skiing and our winters are now really short because of climate change so people may move out west so they can use the lower temperatures in the alpine to their advantage to continue to play in the snow in mid April
Down south many humans love the beaches and warm temps so that is what drives lots of people down there and after going on vacation down there lots maybe some people to decide to retire there
How can human settlement affect the environment?
conflict
The more land that gets occupied the more it will be worth because not as much of it will be available so farmers will be fighting just to get a few acres.
Pollution
When people are moving all over the place it pollutes our environment because of the emissions from all the motes of transportation
When humans settle in a certain spot they tend to form around rivers or water sources ie. Montreal. Over time when they have been there for a long time the river gets polluted
When suburbs continue spreading out into the rural lands where lots of wild life live, we create lots of light pollution and disrupt all the nocturnal animals therefore forcing them to move and find a new habitat
AIR pollution - right now we are super not energy efficient and where ever there are people the more pollution there will be
soil pollution - if the soil gets super polluted with many chemicals then there won't be as many nutrients in the soils therefore producing food locally will be an issue and it might get to a point where the food won't be safe to eat
water pollution - no safe water then no life in the water and it will pollute the whole water system and any possible animals still living will drink it and wont survive. also, harder to clean water to make it drinking water therefore more expensive and the water cleaning plants will pollute and if its more work then more people have to commute
Habitats
There will be no animals around so the ground/soil wont be as rich because of the poor ecosystem
