Climate factors
Ocean Currents
-
One of the two most important currents affecting Canada, and The Most Important on the east coast is the Labrador Current, a cold water current moving from Baffin Island down to Nova Scotia, named for Newfoundland and Labrador, which it passes on its yearly journey.
The Labrador Current has always acted as a determinant of the climatic patterns of Canada’s eastern coastal areas. The waters of the current once thrived with commercially important fish species like Atlantic cod, which sustained large scale commercial fishing in the region.
It is also guilty of transporting Icebergs and Ice Sheets onto the trans-Atlantic shipping lanes and has transported the Iceberg that would later sink the R.M.S. Titanic onto the gigantic cruiser's path.
The Labrador Current plays a major role in influencing the climate of the Canadian provinces lying along its path. The relatively lower salinity of the current compared to the waters of the central parts of the Atlantic Ocean makes the water easily susceptible to freezing.

Air Masses
-
Cold air travels easily down from the arctic in the winter bring cold temperatures and lots of dry air which means less precipitation in the winter.
The Prairies are vast and wide open which means warm air travels easily up from the South in the summer causing rain when it meets the colder air.
-
Relief
The Western Cordillera has the greatest difference between the shortest and highest elevations, ranging from 700 m to 5959 m (a 5259 m difference), the result of a region consisting mostly of mountains.

Latitude
These lands are the ones farthest north in all of Canada, and also the most extreme in all of Canada, as Canada dwells solely in the Northern Hemisphere. Unsurprisingly, this is also the coldest part of Canada. Ellesmere Island in the Innuitians is only 26 km away from the coast of Greenland, and you can literally see Greenland from this point.

Elevation
-
Mount Logan in the Western Cordillera has the highest elevation in Canada of 5959 meters at its peak.
-
Bodies of water
-
The Great Lakes are the five largest fresh-water lakes in the world, and as most of them touch Canada, this is the most significant body of water in Canada, offering cargo ships the best route to take to reach their destinations.
