Defination
Congenital disorder characterised by underdevelopment of the optic nerve
Often associated with andocrinopathies
Cause
Gastational and exposure history
In most cases there is no know cause
Mutation of genes involved in transcription regulation
Symptoms
Vision
Hypthalamatic dysfunction
Meurolodiagraphic abnormalities
Pathophysiology
Arising from underdevelopment of the optic nerve
Optic disk appears abnormally small
Most common congenital optic nerve anomaly
Because not all optic nerve axons has developed properly
Complications
Encepheloceles
Anomalies of ventricles
Septo optic dysplasia
Anencephaly
Cerebral atropy
Rarely tumors

Maternal smoking
