TYPES OF COMPUTER
Smartphones
Smartphones have an operating system that allows them to run various computer applications, while still being able to make and receive phone calls. This type of computers accesses the internet through wi-fi or 3G/4G/5G connectivity, just like the tablet. Its functions may include:
- surf the net
- send/receive emails
- GPS
- calendar functions
- phone banking
- streaming of videos
- instant messaging
etc.
Advantages:
- lightweight
- can make phone calls while being connected to the internet
- have a reasonable battery life
Disadvantages:
- not a large memory size
- small screens make reading and using the keyboard harder
- photography and surfing the web can consume a lot of battery
PC/Desktop computers
A PC (personal computer) is a general purpose computer, whose term (pc) is mostly used for IBM-compatible computer systems, made up from a separate keyboard, monitor, mouse & processor unit.
Advantages:
- power consumption isn't a problem since its plugged into a wall socket
- internet access is more stable since they usually stay on the same network because they are not portable
- buying the spare parts of the computer tends to be cheaper
Disadvantages:
- they are not portable
- they tend to be more complicated to use
Smartwatches
This mini-computers worn on users wrists have the same functions as smartphones, and use OLED technology. they link to the smartphones through bluetooth and make use of touchscreen technology. Its functions may include:
- internet connectivity
- make/take phone calls
- messaging
- GPS
etc.
Advantages:
- easy to use for fitness and health issues
- notificados are delivered straight to the wrist of the user

Mainframe computers
This are very big and powerful computer systems used to run commercial applications. Its name comes from the times where the individual components of computers had to be stored in frames. its features may include:
- several CPUs
- fast processor speeds
- ability to support multiple operating systems
- big amounts of storage capacity

Tablets
Tablets are to be considered internet-enabled portable computers. Tables are very similar to the smartphones as they bot use touchscreen technology. Tablets do not have a physical keyboard, since this is part of the touch screen and it is controlled either with the finger or with a stylus. It usually accesses internet through wi-fi connection or 3G/4G/5G connectivity. Its features may include:
- high-definition displays
- front and back-facing cameras
- lightweight
- long battery life
- bluetooth connection
- flash memory and cloud sorage
- sensors
Advantages:
- fully portable
- easy to use due to touch-screen technology
- doesn't generate heat
- long battery life
- when it goes into stand by it is still connected to the internet
Disadvantages:
- limited memory
- file transfer has to be done usually through an App store
- cant support as many file formats as tablets
Laptops
A laptop is a computer that has its monitor, keyboard, pointing device & processor unit in one unit, opposite to the PC. Its features may include:
- long battery life & low power consumption
- lightweight
- not much heat should be generated in the processor
Advantages:
- portability
- no trailing wires
- take full advantage of wi-fi
- can link into any multimedia system
Disadvantages:
- very limited battery life
