Albinism
Definition
a congenital absence of pigment in the skin and hair (which are white) and the eyes (which are usually pink).
Causes
is the genetic disorder caused by absence of melanin.
result to skin, hair and eyes to have no colour
Treatment
prescription glasses
dark glasses to protect the eyes from the sun
regular eye exams
Diagnostic procedure
physical exam
discussion about skin and hair pigmentation changes
examination of the eyes by an expert (ophthalmologist)
comparing the individual’s coloration with that of family members
Signs and symptoms
Absence of color in hair, skin and eyes.
Lighter than normal coloring of eye, skin and hair.
Patches of skin that have absence of color.

always wear sunglases.
wear long sleeve clothes
apply emollient cream
avoid excessive bathing
avoid over scrubbing of the skin
nursing intervention
apply standard infection control
maintain personal hygiene
cleanse skin as prescribed and apply medication
monitor skin lensions daily
