Friend with obvious malnutrition
NUTRIENTS
Fat-soluble vitamins
absorbed from the GI tract within the lipid of micelles and ultimately enter the lymphatic capillaries
Proteins
provide fuel for the processes of cellular respiration to form ATP thus, provide energy to the body
Lipids
provide fuel for the processes of cellular respiration to form ATP thus, they provide energy to the body
Water-soluble vitamins
these are easily absorbed into the blood from the digestive system, some can serve as coenzymes or as antioxidants
Carbohydrates
provide fuel for the processes of cellular respiration to form ATP thus, they provide energy to the body
Calcium
essential for muscle contractions, blood clotting, and release of neurotransmitter from nerve cells
Phosphate
structural component of ATP, other nucleotides, phospholipids, and is an important component of the plasma membrane
Water
considering that water makes up a majority of the body, it is needed in everything and essential to live
RDA
they recommend to have vegetables, fruits, grains, lean meats and poultry, and dairy in order to have a balanced diet and get the sufficient nutrients and vitamins
NECESSARY NUTRIENTS
Endocrine
blood levels of nutrients influence GH release
Nervous
the sympathetic division functions to maintain homeostasis during exercise or times of stress, which includes the release of nutrients from stores
Cardiac
nutrients help compose part of the plasma in your blood
Urinary
nutrients are normally reabsorbed completely in the PCT where each nutrient has its own specific transport protein
Mucular
one of the primary advantages of producing ATP through aerobic cellular respiration is the variety of nutrients that can be oxidized, which include pyruvate, fatty acids, and amino acids
Doesn't eat meat or animal byproducts
Doesn't eat gluten
Takes a high dose multivitamin
Most of the vitamins required come from meat, dairy, egg, or cheese. without eating these foods she's not getting enough vitamins
This is a protein needed by the body and is commonly found in wheat or rye meaning she probably doesn't eat enough grains which contain vitamins needed by the body
Depending on the type, if she takes too much fat-soluble vitamins the excess can end up being stored in the body fat and reach toxic levels (hypervitaminoses)
The body is most likely working harder to keep up with the malnutrition but since she isn't fueling her body properly she is using more energy than she is consuming. In order to return to homeostasis she would have to incorporate some foods slowly back into her diet in order to reobtain the minerals and vitamins she needs
