CONSENT
Expressed Consent
Consent given when the patient verbally, or knowingly acknowledges, the right of the EMS provider to render care or transport
Informed Consent goes hand-in-hand with expressed consent. Expressed consent is only valid if the patient has been wholly informed of the nature of the treatment being offered, as well as the potential risks, benefits, alternatives to treatment, and potential consequences for refusing treatment

Implied Consent
Given when a patient is unconscious, experiencing AMS, or otherwise incapable of making a rational decision

Involuntary Consent
Consent for emergency care of individuals that are mentally ill, developmentally delayed, or in a psycho-crisis should be obtained from someone who is legally responsible for the patient.
Minors and Consent

Emancipated Minors: Minors under the age of 18 that can legally be treated as adults in certain situations. Emancipated minors include: married individuals, members of military, or parents.
