allopurinol

mechanism of action

the resultant increase in nucleotide concentration leads to feedback inhibition of de novo purine synthesis

allopurinol also increases re-utilisation of hypoxanthine & xanthine for nucleotide &nucleic acid synthesis

the enzyme converts hypoxanthine to xanthine &xanthine to uric acid

decreases the production of uric acid by inhibiting the action of xanthine oxidase
