the resultant increase in nucleotide concentration leads to feedback inhibition of de novo purine synthesis
allopurinol also increases re-utilisation of hypoxanthine & xanthine for nucleotide &nucleic acid synthesis
the enzyme converts hypoxanthine to xanthine &xanthine to uric acid
decreases the production of uric acid by inhibiting the action of xanthine oxidase
indications
Contraindications
treat certain types of kidney stones
prevent increased level of uric levels in patients receiving cancer chemotherapy
