DEFINITION
• An inner ear that causes episodes of vertigo
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
• Disorder that affects the inner ear
• Causing the sensation of spinning
• Leading to hearing problems and
• A ringing sound in the ear
CAUSES
• Exact cause unknown
• Might be due to changes
• In the fluid in inner ear tubes
CLINICALMANIFESTATIONS
• Vertigo
• Loss of hearing in the affected ear
• Tinnitus
• Aural fullness
• Loss of balance
• Headache
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Sweating
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
• Hearing test/ audiometry
• Electronystagmography
• Head MRI
• Cranial CT scan
TREATMENT
• Vestibular rehabilitation exercises
• Hearing aids
• Surgery – endolymphatic sac procedure
• Diet
Limit salt
Exclude caffeine
Less chocolate
Stop alcohol
Less monosodium glutamate
HEALTH EDUCATION
• Advice patient to rest during vertigo episodes
• Health educate healthy eating
• Advice about importance of follow up
PHARMACOLOGY
• Valium
• Promethazine
• Antivert
• Dyazide
NURSING CARE PLAN
• Advice patient to rest during vertigo attacks
• Allay and manage stress and anxiety
• Provide health meals regularly
• Monitor and promote water intake
• Ensure normal vital signs readings
Evaluation
• Less discomfort and anxiety
• No signs of infection
