Formoterol
Mechanism of action
Produces accumulation of cAMP at beta adrenergic receptors
It result in relaxation of airway smooth muscle.
Indication
Treatment of asthma
Treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Treatment of chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Nursing consideration
Monitor pulmonary fuction
Monitor ECG periodically during therapy
Check heart rate and BP before therapy
Monitor allergies
Assess lung sound
Contraindications
Acute attack of asthma
Contraindicated in patients taking corticosteroids
