Class Structure
- warm up activities (prep body and mind),
- strength, stretch and cardio activities,
- follow in with series of movements or steps that can be a mirroring activity they follow,
- Cool down

- hoops on floor define personal space/provide visual basis
- Dance spots mark boundaries or provide visual direction. - Movement symbols/images of movements on display can reinforce concepts

Lines moving up and down the room e.g. crab movements, side planks, putting obstacle in the way and sts deciding how to get around it, scenes out of a story, movement interpretation e.g. heavy

Creative Movement - lower primary, about opportunities for exploration, body and special awareness - not many boundaries
Creative Dance - upper primary, education focus, about self-expression and growth, through specific dance style and form (choreography)
Students needs experience, foundation, opportunity to play - prior to moving into creating/following choreography
Curriculum Benchmarks
Foundation to Year 2 band:
- explore fundamental movement types (jumping like a frog, stomping like a giant or rolling like a wheel.
- learn about diff between locomotor and non-locomotor movements - that can be performed at different levels and tempo, and in various directions using different body parts.
Years 3–4 band:
- continue to create dances working safely – independently and with classmates and teacher.
- extend fundamental movements to include more complex ones and incorporate props and objects.
- refine technical skills (control, precision), ext. exploration of dance elements to build richer movement vocabulary
