How it is performed?

Pre-operative care

Insertion of a speculum into the nasal cavity

Removal of the pituitary tumor with forceps

Incision made beneath the the upper lip

With the skull open , it is best

To remove the gland through the nose

Health history and physical assesment

Explain the neccesary post operative activity restriction

Asses the patient knowledge and understanding of the surgery

Teach respiratory hygiene and breathing exercise

Administer intravenous antibiotic as ordered

Post-operative care

Encourage patient to use straw for drinking

Frequent oral hygiene

Asses nasal dressing for blood or clear fluid

Provide bed rst

Administer analgesia as prescibed

Monitor vital signs

Bleeding

Visual impairement

Infection

Incomplete tumor removal
