A State that protects and promotes the economic and social well-being of its citizens

THE WAR
a great atmosphere of anxiety
was used technological weapons
soldiers didn't know where the danger came from, they coulnd't escape from there
gasses, bombs, tanks, airplanes, submarines, machines guns
a great disillusionment
they believed it would be a short war
the reality of the trenches was a horrible reality
So that after the war many soldiers were suffering of nervous breakdown
the First World War (1914-1918)
it began with the killing of the Austrian archduke Francesco Ferdinando
it was a trench war
Europe was divided into
Triple Alliance
Germany, Italy, Austria
Triple Entente
Russia, France,Britain and later America
also Italy left the Triple Alliance and joined the Triple Entente

Durng the war they replaced man at work and at public adimistration
So after the war they were able to get the right to vote

Furthermore England covered a 50th of total lands of the globe and also the British ships carried 80% of the world trade

THE COMMONWEALTH
An organization of Nations where all of the States were in an atmosphere of economic cooperation and equality
It was created after the dissolution of the Empire (1931), caused by the rebellion of countries
So many countries couldn't be controlled and maneged anymore
THE SOCIETY
the Edwardian society started in 1901, after the death of Quen Victoria
this society was similar to the Victorian one in various aspects
moral values
poverty, that affected a large of population
class distincition
LIBERALS
won the elections in 1906
they were divided in two groups
those who supportd New Liberalism
in favour of State intervention in social life
those who supported the traditional liberal values
linked to laissez-faire and self-help
