Mechanism of Action
Decreases plasma urate concentrations
Done through inhibition of the urate anion transporter
Facilitates urinary excretion of uric acid
as well as the human organic anion transporter
Inhibits re-absorption of uric acid in proximal convoluted tubule
Side effects
Dizziness
Nausea
Ringing in the ears
Painful urination,
Heartburn
