HORDEOLUM
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS
• Red lump on eyelid
• Eyelid pain
• Eyelid swelling
• Tearing
DEFINITION
• Also known as stye or sty
• A red, painful lump
• Near edge of eyelid
TREATMENT
• Usually self treatable
• Self care- warm compress
• Resolves within days
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
• Ultrasonography
• Self- diagnosable
NURSING CARE PLAN
• Teach patient eye self-care
• Provide required utensils
• Help patient where needed
CAUSES
• Eyelid oil glands infection
environmental factors e.g. wind
viral infections
HEALTH EDUCATION
• Wash your hands
• Take care with cosmetics
• Ensuring that contact lenses are clean
• Apply warm compresses
• Manage blepharitis
PHARMACOLOGY
