ORBITAL TRAUMA
CAUSES
Intense injury to the facial bones
Damage to the optic nerves
Direct impact on the face(dashboard during an accident)
DEFINITION
Is when there is a break in one of the bones surrounding the
Eyeball also called an eye socket
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Swelling of the forehead or cheek
Swollen skin under the eye
Black and blue bruising around the eyes
Numbness in the injured side of the face
Blurry, decreased or double vusion
Blood in white part of the eye
Difficulty in moving the eye into different directions
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Causes compression of contents of sup orbital fissure
Causing pares of nerves
An increased intra orbital pressure due to hametoma
Resulting in neurological decifit in their distribution
DIAGNOSTIC STUDIES
X-rays
Computed temography scan
Doctor may take pictures of the eye and aye socket
TREATMENT
Place an ice pack in the swollen area
Antibiotics and the decongestants may be prescribed
No surgical treatment and May heal on their own
Avoid blowing nose as they heal
