Defination
It is a blood circulation disorder that causes the blood vessels outside of your heart and brain to narrow, block or spasm
Clinical manifestations
Leg numbness or weakness
Sores on your toes, feet or legs that wont heal
Claudication
Hair loss or slower hair growth on feet and legs
A change in the colour of legs
Shiny skin on legs
Erectile dysfunction in men
No pulse or a weak pulse in legs or feet
Pathophysiology
The most severe clinical manifestation is critical limb ischemia
Which is associated with a risk of limb loss and mortality
Due to blockage of the arteries supplying blood to the lower limbs
Treatment
High blood pressure medications
Statin to reduce risk of heart attack and stroke
Keep risk factors such as diabetes under control
Anticoagulant medications
Quit smoking
Pentoxifylline (pentoxyl, trental)
Healthy diet
