Community Ecology
Community
-
Some communities change their environment in such a way that paves the way for species currently outside the community
-
-
Recently we have begun community restoration projects, such as bringing the wolves back to Yellowstone National Park
As is true with at least the Yellowstone Project, it seems that community restoration projects is people fixing problems they caused, but this is better than not fixing the problem regardless
The story about the removal and reintroduction of Yellowstone's wolves is a good example of the fragile balance of ecosystems

Diversity
-
One important factor to how diverse communities are is the scale, or the size of the ecosystem the community resides in
-
The relationship between the size of the area and species richness is expressed by the following formula:
S=cA^z
S is the number of species, A is the area, and c and z are constants which must be discovered by surveying all the communities being compared
Since other methods of viewing diversity doesn't take the number of each species into consideration, there is the method of species abundance distribution
