Susie Salmon

14 years old
She is murdered and raped at the beginning of the novel by her neighbour, George Harvey
Very interested in science, this led her to her curiosity in Mr. Harvey's underground hole
A lot of her story is written about the pain her family experiences after her death
High school is a big deal for her, so when she enters her heaven all the building look like suburban high schools
She is obsessed and very interesting in design and structure
She enjoys taking photographs, this is revealed when she takes a photo of her mother and catches her off guard, this is when Susie sees a side of her mother that she has never seen before
In heaven, Susie grieves her own death instead of enjoying the happiness of heaven. She continuously watches her family and how they struggle to deal with her death, and this makes Susie feel bad
Susie isn't yet able to let go of earth, and until she learns to let go of earth, she will not be able to go to her other heaven where nothing but joy exists
