By August 4, all the great powers in Europe had become involved in the war. The Triple Entente included Great Britain, France, and Russia, and the opposing side included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and their allies. World war 1 took place from July 28, 1914, to November 11, 1918, and mostly took place in Europe. The war was divided into two fronts: the Western Front, a long line of trenches that stretched from the coast of Belgium to Switzerland, and the Eastern front.
