World War I
What was used in WW1
Espionage:Across Europe, nations performed espionage to gain information, or safely pass information.
PROPAGANDA: Many countries created propaganda, so that their people would support and join the war effort.
TRENCH WARFARE: Was a military strategy that was used in WW1, mostly in france. Conditions in the trenches were poor, and even fatal.
ANIMALS DURING WWI: Animals were used throughout the war, for purposes such as transportation and communication. Millions of animals were used during the war.
The use of new deadly weapons and the use of chemical weapons was deadly during the war. Improvements in innovations and aviation were also used in the war.
Allies
Even before WW1 started, alliances were put in place that created further distrust and division in the world at the time.
The triple alliance: Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy.
The Triple Entente: Russia, England, and France.
There was also conflicting relations between European countries, before the war even started.

Imperialism
: The efforts to create a global empire by gaining territorial control, either through force or negation
Numerous world powers wanted control of land around the world. and increase their influence within the 20th century.
This would help fuel for the WW1 to happen, as counties would compete for more power, causing them to go against each other.
Nationalism
Strong sense of patriotism about ones country, which can lead to feelings of superiority over other races and nationalities.
This can lead to negative affects, as it can cause a country to discriminate others, and create conflict.
There was strong feelings of nationalism between various countries during the 20th century, which would also fuel
Franz Ferdinand
Was the heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary. Came from a family of wealth. Was greatly disliked by many, and had racist beliefs on other ethnic groups.
When he was assassinated, by Gavrilo Princip, it would start a chain of reactions that would be a catalyst to start WW1
Aftermath of the war
The triple Alliance loses the war, Italy switched sides on April 26 1915.
Germany is left in great destruction and economic ruin. On top of that, there forced to pay huge reparations and they lose all of their colonies. Germany military is also greatly restricted, and they must accept total blame for the war.
Austria-Hungary empire is split into numerous countries, and the two become separate nations, Poland is created out of Germany and Russian territory.
The Ottoman empire is defeated, new countries are created within the Middle east.
Numerous Russian revolutions occur, the Russian empire ends and becomes the USSR. Territory is lost with the creation of Poland.

Militarism
To build up a strong, threatening military force of a country, that's capable of going into war. This is to show as a symbol of power and strength.
Many European countries followed this, created tension between them.
