In term 2 of the school year, the following topics must be covered: Whole numbers, Properties of 3-D shapes, Geometric Pattern, Symmetry, Decimal fractions, Capacity/Volume. For this task, we will concentrate on Decimal Fractions.
Decimal fractions involve: Recognising, Comparing and Ordering, Counting forwards and backwards to at least two decimal places, Place values to at least two decimal places, Addition and subtraction to at least two decimal places, Multiply decimals by 10 and 100, Problem solving, Equivalence between common and decimal fractions.
Outcomes required of these tasks: to create a deep conceptual understanding to build a sense of Mathematics; to develop the correct Mathematical language; learn to listen, communicate, think, reason logically and apply the mathematical knowledge gained; learn to investigate, analyse, represent and interpret information; learn to pose and solve problems; build an awareness of the important role that Mathematics plays in real life situations including the personal development of the learner.
