Married Harriet Westbrook in London, lived with her for three years

Became associated with William Godwin, a radical philosofer ("An inquiry concerning political justice")
Shelley fell in love with Godwin's daughter, Mary Godwin, whose mother was the feminist mary Wollstonecraft
Went with her to France and Switzerland, abandoning Harriet and her two children
