Mechanism of action
Selective beta-1 receptor blocker
Blocks activation of beta-1 receptor by epinephrine
Lowers the heart rate and blood pressure
Has reverse effect of epinephrine
Beta blockers prevent the release of renin
Indications
Hypertension
Ventricular tachyarrhythmias
Angina pectoris
Management of anxiety
Contraindications
Persistent severe bradycardia
Heart congestion
Overt cardiac failure
Cardiogenic shock
