Impacts on the World
Sophisticated techniques of espionage were introduced during WWI.Counter-spy technology even was developed to crack the methods of their enemies. In today’s world, we have become used to threats of security.
Propaganda was used a fear tactic and capitalized on fear of the enemy. It also was made to appeal to people’s pride in their countries. Posters, newspaper ads, pamphlets, etc. were successful ways to advertise and spread propaganda as they could impress ideas quickly, vividly and lastingly.
An anonymous individual said, "This war is a business man's war and we don't see why we should go out and get shot in order to save the lovely state of affairs which we now enjoy." This individual felt that it was not worth risking their life for a conflict that didn’t involve them. Many people protested as a result of this reasoning.
When the war broke out, women took men’s jobs and kept things running and in order. It also changed the appearance of women. Many types of clothing were introduced for the very first time. Even towards the end, some women won the right to vote for the first time!
During the time of WWI, people were just starting to think deeper into advancing the technology they have. Many devices were very helpful to fighting the war. However, each one of these technological advances pushed people to understand more. Some of the unsuccessful technology was able to be redone or tweaked so that it could be better.
The animals used in WWI gave the world a new perspective on the uses of these animals and their capabilities. Dogs and cats were used to hunt rats which carried pests and diseases.
Shell Shock was one of the first sights during WWI. The term “Shell Shock” originated in 1915 from Charles Myers, which described soldiers who were involuntarily shivering, crying, fearful, and had constant intrusions of memory. It is not a term used in psychiatric practice today but remains in everyday use.
The losses in the Middle East were staggering: the war not only ravaged the land and killed off armies, it also destroyed whole societies and economies. In this way, the experience of World War I in the Middle East is similar to the experience of World War II in Europe.
Trench warfare makes both sides difficult to advance. It had a massive impact on soldiers as it caused huge amounts of casualties on the battlefield and also caused health problems on the battlefield.
