Tunica albuginea
: capsule surrounding the testes
Sertoli cells
: provide nutrients and supportive function.
septa
: extension of the capsule that extend into the testis and divides in into lobules
Accessory organs = secondary sex organs :
seminal vesicle
prostate gland
bulbourethral gland
spermatogenesis
:
production of sperm cells

: extends from the base of urinary bladder to the tip of the penis ( 7-8 inches long )
Leutinizing hormone
: stimulates seminiferous tubules to secrete testosterone
Testosterone :
Stimulates reproductive organ development and sex drive ( male & female )

: production of female gamete and preparation for support of developing embryo during pregnancy
Ovaries
: primary female sex organs
ductus system
: delivery of female gamete
Suspensory ligaments
: secures ovary to lateral walls of pelvis
Ovarian ligament
: attach ovary to uterus
Broad ligament
: encloses suspensory ligament
Oogenesis
process of producing ova / ovum egg cells
Ovulation ability to release eggs ; begins at pubery
Reproductive ability ends at menopause
oocytes are matures in developing ovarian follicles
matured oocytes are called Graafian follicle just before being relaease
uterine (fallopian ) tube
receive the ovulated oocyte
provide a site for fertilization
attached medially to the uterus
does not physically attach to the ovary
supported by the broad liagment
regions of the uterus
Body
: main portion
Fundus
: area where uterine tube enters
cervix
: narrow outlet that protrudes into the vagina or opening into the uterus
