I began this journey with the intention to discover and embrace the process of research. With a desire to understand the craze around Jane Austen, I asked, “What about Jane Austen?” Jane Austen is known around the world for her ability to depict everyday life during her era and for her portrayal of female characters; one of her most famous novels, Pride and Prejudice, has become a gem in the world of academia. After reaching some dead ends and tangents, I adjusted my question: “What elements of realist fiction and conduct literature, both threaded throughout so-called practical tale of reason Pride and Prejudice, invite the reader to engage in a search for an intellectual landscape about clashes of female conduct during the romantic period versus the ongoing struggles females face today?” As this process continued, I created a digital archive to provide a different dimension to my research process. This digital archive has allowed me to explore my research in a more personal manner, using “human terms.” It has also helped me determine my intended audience: academic scholars, who can potentially engage in audience response to build upon the current question. Furthermore, the digital archive bridges the gap between material and thought for this research project. After continuing to follow the process of research, I have finally shifted my focus to the exploration of this question: “Through a contemporary lens, how does the critical reception of the film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice differ from that of the novel?”
