Fertility
Describes the status of a parent, almost universally the mother.
Reproduction
Refers to the capacity for a population or subpopulation to sustain its size from generation to generation.

Crude Birth Rate
A period measure that employs both vital registration and census or survey data. It is defined as the total number of births to mothers of all ages that occur during a year (B, a vital statistic) per 1,000 persons in the general population (P, based on enumeration).

General fertility rate
The number of births that occur in a population during a year per 1,000 women of childbearing ages alive at midyear.
Occasionally, populations are trans-formed dramatically and quickly as the result of natural disasters, technological breakthroughs, and the like.
