Life in quaratine for an extended period of time although necessary to combat the deadly coronavirus can negatively affect ones mental health. This quarantine can cause post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). People are at increased risk for developing PTSD because they are experiencing loss of freedom, separation from loved ones, and fear of the unknown, amongst many other stressors such as loss of employment. There are many consequences to the development of PTSD such as substance abuse disorders and other dependency symptoms. PTSD can make it very difficult for one to resume living their living as they were prior to the illness. It can affect all aspects of one's life including relationship with family and friends, employment, and physical health. One can develop a phobia of going out in public due to fears of contracting an infectious disease from others. PTSD as a consequence of this quaratine can be detrimental. Ensuring frequent communication with loved ones, eating a healthy diet, sleeping well, exercising, avoiding unhealthy habits, and staying occupied can help deter PTSD. - Julieta Alba
