CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT: TOPIC 6
Definition of group activity
Group work is where students collaborate with one another on set tasks (in or out of classroom)
It is also where individuals learn by benefiting each other through cooperative learning.
Individual differences in group
Each student have their own differences that makes them unique.
These differences can help out when people with different abilities are put together in a group.
Students with specific abilities can influence another students which resulted them in learning something new,
Creative Teaching Methods
Teaching combines both traditional and technological.
Conduct various types of activities like debate, discussions, workshops, gallery walk etc.
Adopt ideas from textbook and create inspired activities from it.
EXAMPLES:

Mind maps
Create Diorama
Steps of Brainstorming
STEP 1:
Teacher writes the main topic on board.
Teacher call our for ideas from students.
Teacher doesn't question them.
STEP 2:
Students may ask fro clarification but ideas remain on board.
STEP 3:
-Each student make their own map of ideas
STEP 4:
Students rank each point and arrange them according to its importance.
STEP 5:
Class then votes on the ideas according to the rank.
STEP 6:
Idea that gets most point will then be discussed in depth.

Importance of Panel Discussion in group
Students learn to work together and find information needed.
It allows students to share their ideas and collaborate those ideas into something new.
Teaches students the sense of responsibility of carrying out their given roles.
Teacher's role in instructional part
Teacher acts like a facilitator.
Guide the students.
Observe the students behavior.
Provide direction/ instruction by giving examples.
Have a brief discussion to provide guidelines.
Gives specific instruction on what to do next.
Student's role in activity period
Discuss on the topic and agree & highlight important issues.
Discuss strategies of presentation and examples.
Group representative present in an effective & interesting manner.
Listen & participate by providing ideas

Helps students learn their strengths and weaknesses.
Provide information for students to learn as well improve on themselves.

Individual Differences in Classroom
PHYSICAL DIFFICULTIES
Some students have physical difficulties that might restrict their ability to carry out a certain task.
They might also experience low self esteem due to the comparison with other classmates,
Teacher should be prepared to handle such situation and plan activities that allows those with physical disabilities to participate
SOCIO-ECONOMIC BACKGROUND
There will be no doubt that every student come from different economic background,
The differences of socio-economic background has an effect on their behavior and ability to leanr..
Students with low-socio-economic background tend to be slower at developing academic skills compared to those who come from a high economic background.
CULTURE/INTELLECTUAL LEVEL OF CHILDREN'S PARENTS
Students mostly learn from their first figures, that is their parents. Every parent has their own way of thinking and the culture that they all adapted.
Students then will adopt the same way of thinking as well as adapt to the culture that they're born with from their parents.
Parents with higher education tend to be involved in students academic performance compared to those whose parents that did not obtain any education.
Students whose parents have low qualification have poorer academic performance
