SIMPLE PAST TENSE
Definition
Simple Past Tense is a form of tense that describes an event that occured at a specific time in the past.
The verb used in this tense must be the second verb (verb 2). Similiar to simple present tense, this form is one of the most basic tense and is often used when writing or speaking in English.

- an example of a positive sentence:
(+) I went to Bandung with my friends last week.
(+) Bella and Billi were at the school library yesterday afternoon.
(+) Sinta and Sindi were at the school library yesterday afternoon.
- Examples of negative sentences:
(-) I was not at home when he came last night.
(-) Devina did not get what she expected from the seminar last week.
(-) He did not come to school yesterday because he was sick.
- Examples of introgative sentences:
(?) Did they do the Math exam two days ago?
(?) Were you at dina's house yesterday?
(?) What did you buy last Sunday?
Pattern
There are two pattern of Simple Past Tense:
- (+) Subject + was/were eg --> She was happy/They were happy
(-) Subject + was/were + not eg --> She was not happy/They were not happy
(?) Was/Were + Subject eg --> Was she happy? / Were they happy?
- (+) Subject + Verb 2 eg --> They worked together
(-) Subject + did not + Verb 1 eg --> They did not work together
(?) Did + Subject + Verb 1 eg --> Did they work together?
Function
The function of Simple Past Tense is to indicate that an activity or situation began and ended at a particular time in the past.
