a lot of times, countries want to control another country's wealth
for examole nowadays, countries are fighting for privileges such as oil, minerals, or other materials that are used in manufacturing.

most of the time, countries decide that they need more land, so they attack nearby countries or countries that don't have that much power, to get land
Countries normally fight for land because they need either living space, or they need it for agricultural use. But it can also be used for other reasons.
Mexican- American war
Mexico and U.S. fought for Texas, which Mexico claimed it was still theirs, but in the end U,S. won, making Texas part of U.S.
Arab-Israeli war
Israeli took territories of the West Bank, including east Jerusalem

When a country seeks to punish and take revenge on what a country did to them, also to strike back on something the other country did
This also relates to Nationalism, when a country has been wronged, and they aree motivated to gain their pride and spirit back
This can lead to a chain of revengeful wars, which is usually really difficult to stop

A lot of times one religion wants to rule over all the other religions, or someone wants to impose their religion as the main one.
