ADULT CONSIDERATION:
Increase walking and other activities gradually, provided they do not cause fatigue or dyspnea. Consider a cardiac rehabilitation program.
Avoid extremes of heat and cold.
Know the signs and symptoms of worsening heart failure (Think FACES: Fatigue, limitation of Activities, chest Congestion/cough, Edema, and Shortness of breath).
Recall the symptoms experienced when illness began.
Reappearance of previous symptoms may indicate a recurrence.
Report immediately any of the following to the HCP: Weight gain of 3 lb (1.4 kg) in 2 days, or 3-5 lb (2.3 kg) in a wk ,Difficulty breathing, especially with activity or when lying flat , Waking up breathless at night , Frequent dry, hacking cough, especially when lying down , Fatigue, weakness , Swelling of ankles, feet, or abdomen, Swelling of face or difficulty breathing (if taking ACE inhibitors), Nausea with abdominal swelling, pain, and tenderness , Dizziness or fainting.
Follow up with HCP on regular basis.
Consider joining a local support group with family members and/or caregiver(s)
