Pathophysiology
Blockage of the ostia may be due to allergies, head and facial injuries or bony abnormalities,
mucus produced by the sinuses is removed through small openings in the nose called osta,
in inflammation there is oedema and increased production of mucus,
these serves to block the ostia and impair ciliary action,
the mucus then accumulates in the sinus and cause congestion,

apply local heat on the nose to reduce oedema, pain and help liquify secretions.

assist patient to a sitting position and apply pressure by pinching the anterior of the nose for 5 to 10 minutes
